New LRS Table Tracker Improves Table Turnover In Fast-Casual Restaurants

ADDISON, TX—May 3, 2011 —Long Range Systems, Inc. (LRS) today launched Table Tracker, a revolutionary RFID system designed to speed up food delivery in fast casual restaurants. The space-saving device is smaller than a CD and less than a half-inch thick, so it doesn’t take up space on the table, but it’s also easy to use: guests place the Table Tracker on the table after placing an order, and it sends table information to the kitchen Touchscreen PC via RFID tags installed under the table. When the order is ready, the runner checks the screen and knows exactly where the food should be delivered, ensuring guests receive their food as soon as possible. If the food isn’t delivered by a pre-programmed time, then a manager is paged.
“Delivering food quickly is critical to maintaining repeat business, and turn time is critical in fast casual restaurants,” said Long Range Systems President, Ken Lovegreen. “If the food isn’t the correct temperature or turn time is slow, a customer who just has an hour for lunch might not give you a second chance even if you make the best hamburger in the city. Table Tracker doesn’t just help speed up food delivery, it also provides reporting that tracks performance and helps you identify areas of improvement.”
Table Tracker collects turn time data and number of times a manager is paged, and that information can be viewed online. Restaurant managers or stakeholders in the corporate office can use that feedback to pinpoint where operations can be improved. With Table Tracker, managers can see when they need to increase or decrease staff, which can lower labor costs without sacrificing customer service.
“Managers can view data to see when more runners are necessary to consistently provide the fastest food delivery during peak and non-peak hours,” said Long Range Systems President, Ken Lovegreen. ”And Table Tracker gives visibility to everyone in the kitchen — if an order is delayed, multiple people are aware of it and the manager gets paged.”
Restaurant personnel pre-program times for to determine order status in Table Tracker. If an order is delayed beyond the pre-programmed time, it will turn yellow on the touch screen to indicate the delay. If more time goes by without the order being cleared in the system, the order time turns red on the screen and the manager is paged. An order could be delivered on time, but if the runner doesn’t pick up and clear the device in the system, the manager receives a page and can track it down. That reduces the number of lost devices in addition to improving delivery time.
In a fast casual restaurant, speed is definitely king. If it’s lunchtime, diners will frequently select a restaurant by how fast the food is delivered and how far they have to drive instead of basing that choice on the restaurant’s menu.
